HOW EKAYA AND ITS WEAVERS ARE CRAFTING TOMORROW’S BANARASI
Letter from Ekaya
For over 130 years, and across four generations, our story has been entwined with the artistry of Banaras. We owe everything to the hands behind the loom that are skilled, steady, and soulful. Together with our weavers, we’ve not only preserved the sanctity of craft, but we’ve allowed it to evolve—giving tradition new shape, season after season. This Handloom Day, we celebrate more than a fabric. We honour a relationship between thread and hand.

From Ghats to Looms: A Textile Legacy
In Banaras, weaving is more than just heritage; it’s a rhythm that runs through generations. At Ekaya, we’ve always believed in giving this rhythm room to grow. Because when tradition is allowed to breathe, it doesn't just survive; it continues to adapt and progress.
Our latest offerings reflect that ethos. Ekaya Pastels, for instance, brings together the finesse of French lace and our signature Banarasi weaving in a way that feels whisper-light, yet deeply rooted. From these delicate pastels to our Festive Essentials '25 edit, featuring digitally printed saris and solid-hued classics, we're constantly exploring what handloom can become.
And for those who love their sarees with some fun prints, the Bhawna Sharma x Ekaya collaboration is our answer. Basically, our weavers aren’t just preserving tradition but expanding their potential with every new style they bring to life.

Building Tomorrow’s Legacy, Today
From the looms of Banaras to international fashion showcases, we’re proud to be creating bridges between heritage and the now. Whether it’s with design thinkers, stylists, or young creators, our collaborations are rooted in one shared intention: to make the handwoven feel as current as it is timeless.
Craft isn’t Dying; it’s Transforming
There’s a quiet concern often whispered in the bylanes of weaving communities: “Is there still a future here? We look at the present as an opportunity to grow with a generation of young weavers who don’t want to walk away from the loom. This is the energy we’re investing in. This Handloom Day, we recommit to that promise and keep the magic of these weavers alive.
